About Temperature Units

Temperature is a physical quantity that expresses how hot or cold something is. It is measured with a thermometer calibrated in one or more temperature scales.

Common Temperature Units

  • Celsius (°C) - The most commonly used temperature scale worldwide, where water freezes at 0°C and boils at 100°C at standard atmospheric pressure.
  • Fahrenheit (°F) - Commonly used in the United States, where water freezes at 32°F and boils at 212°F at standard atmospheric pressure.
  • Kelvin (K) - The base unit of temperature in the International System of Units (SI). It is an absolute temperature scale where 0 K is absolute zero, the theoretical absence of all thermal energy.

Temperature Conversion Formulas

  • Celsius to Fahrenheit: °F = (°C × 9/5) + 32
  • Fahrenheit to Celsius: °C = (°F - 32) × 5/9
  • Celsius to Kelvin: K = °C + 273.15
  • Kelvin to Celsius: °C = K - 273.15
